Photovoltaic solar power applications
The energy produced by photovoltaic generators and their applications are very diverse. If we make a general classification, we can say that they can be divided into two main sections:
Off-grid sytems
- Telecomunications
- Rural electrification
- Agricultural applications
- Livestock-raising applications
- Public lighting
- Signalling
- Monitoring
- Rural development
Grid-connected systems
This is one of the more recent and more innovative photovoltaic system applications. It comprises installing a photovoltaic array and an inverter capable of transforming the power supplied by the panels and injecting it into the electrical grid.
The inverter is the central core of installations of this kind and must be equipped with certain protectors against conditions that might occur in the electrical grid, such as:
- Voltage out of range
- Grid outage
- Grid out of phase
To ensure that these systems will be economically viable, the country needs to have laws in place and lines of financial aid to offset the higher generation cost per kWh.
